Unoccupied property insurance
There are a number of reasons why a property may not be normally lived in and would require unoccupied property insurance, such as awaiting probate, sale or occupation or because it's undergoing renovation, or simply because you spend time abroad. Why choose HomeProtect for your unoccupied property
HomeProtect is the perfect solution for property owners looking to insure their empty properties.
Our award-winning online service can cover the vast majority of unoccupied situations - including 'hard to insure' circumstances.
We've designed HomeProtect with flexibility in mind, so you can tailor it to fit your needs. With HomeProtect, you can choose buildings insurance, contents insurance, or both. You can also opt to purchase Legal Expenses cover and/or Home Emergency cover for your unoccupied property.
What cover is available?
The cover will vary depending on the length and nature of the unoccupancy. For example, if the property is unoccupied for more than 6 months, or if it is up for sale, then cover will normally be restricted to only the major insurance perils - Fire, Lightning, Explosion, Earthquake and Aircraft. This 'FLEEA' cover is of course crucial against these perils but it will not cover you for other risks such as theft, accidental damage or escape of water.
More comprehensive cover is available for shorter periods of unoccupancy but, as with all insurance policies, terms and conditions apply.

Buildings insurance to cover the fabric of your property
Buildings insurance is household insurance that covers the fabric of your property. Buildings insurance would pay to rebuild your property should you have a fire or would pay for repairs if your home was damaged by a falling tree for example. Whether your unoccupied property is a bungalow, a three storey town house or any other building, trust HomeProtect to provide the buildings insurance you need.
Contents insurance to protect your possessions
Contents insurance protects the things you own. If you had a burglary and things were taken or you suffered a fire or flood, your contents insurance would pay to help you replace your lost or damaged belongings. HomeProtect can provide the contents insurance you need to cover your possessions.
A wide range of options to turbo boost your policy
To give you maximum flexibility we have a range of valuable cover options, such as Legal Expenses and Home Emergency cover, which can be added to your policy at your discretion. With all our optional extras there is no limit to the number of claims you can make (with no impact on your No Claims Bonus on the rest of your HomeProtect policy). Great news!
