How We Write Our Content
Behind every blog article and guide we publish is a commitment to clarity, accuracy and customer trust. Our team works hard to make sure the information you see on our website and other channels is reliable, up-to-date, and easy to understand.
Here’s how we do it:
- We use trusted sources – Everything we write is based on official guidance, insurance regulations, data from recognised industry bodies, and insight from our team who have years of insurance industry experience.
- Referencing – When we use information from external sources, we will always reference where the information comes from.
- We explain things clearly – No jargon, no fluff. Insurance can be complicated, but we break down complex topics so that you can make informed choices.
- We review and update regularly – Like us, our content doesn’t stand still. We revisit it often to make sure it reflects the latest information and any changes to our product or general guidance.
- We value your trust – Your privacy and security matter to us. Learn more about how we protect your information in our Privacy Policy.
We’re proud of the work we do – and we’re here to help you feel more confident in your cover.
Libby brings over 14 years’ experience in financial services and has worked for a range of household name organisations across pet, home and car insurance as well as in mortgages and banking, including Allianz, Investec and Which?. She moved to Homeprotect in 2018 where she is Head of Marketing, where she is responsible for finding new customers and working closely with the price comparison websites so that we can offer the best possible deal to our customers.
Libby says “My whole career to date has been within the financial services industry, and I feel particularly passionate about the fact that our home insurance product is geared towards people who might otherwise struggle to find cover, whether that’s because they need to leave their property unoccupied, they’re undertaking renovations or they live in a listed building. We believe that everyone should access to fair and affordable home insurance, regardless of their circumstances.”

Emma heads up our underwriting team and has worked at Homeprotect for six years. Emma has 25 years of underwriting experience and has spent most of her career in household insurance, with a variety of roles within underwriting for companies such as Chubb, Home and Legacy and Sterling (now Covea). Emma is our in-house expert on issues that can impact a large range of properties and can make them ‘non standard’ including subsidence and flooding.
Emma says: “Non standard elements – such as owning a property close to a river – may increase your home insurance premium. However there are things you can do to help manage your insurance costs, including shopping around before your renewal date, and considering your risk appetite, as many insurers offer tiered pricing options so the level of cover should be reflected in the cost. Don’t be tempted to cut corners in underestimating your property’s rebuild cost or omitting important information when taking out a policy – for example, failing to disclose a property’s proximity to a river could mean that if you needed to make a claim, it might be rejected.”

Gerry is an expert in home insurance, with over 15 years’ experience at Homeprotect across marketing, trading partnerships, digital, ecommerce and most recently. As Head of Product, he is responsible for ensuring our insurance products deliver real value for customers.
Over the years, Gerry has led several key product upgrades to improve the cover we offer, and has played a central role in shaping our policy terms, resulting in Homeprotect being awarded ‘most transparent’ home insurance provider, by independent ratings agency, Fairer Finance.
Gerry says “When you’re looking to take out home insurance it’s really important to understand that not all policies are the same. Spending 10 minutes reading what’s covered – and what’s not – can really pay off. And if you’re not sure, or you want to add something on, it’s always worth speaking to your insurer to see how they can help.”
Josie looks after brand and communications and has been at Homeprotect for the last three years. She oversees Homeprotect’s content strategy, to ensure that we share a range of helpful information for customers so that even if they have an unusual property or ‘non standard’ requirements, they feel empowered to protect their home. Prior to working at Homeprotect, she held senior brand and customer experience roles at a range of transport organisations including one of the UK’s busiest airports. Josie says “From endorsements to escape of water, Insurance can seem complicated, particularly if you’re a first time buyer or have anything unusual about your property – that’s why we wrote a handy insurance glossary, to help demystify the jargon and explain the key things you need to know before taking out or renewing a policy.”
David has 12 years’ experience in financial services, having previously led media, digital marketing, SEO and ad technology at leading bank, Barclays UK, before moving to Homeprotect in 2018, where he is now Chief Customer and Marketing Officer. Since joining Homeprotect, David has spearheaded a number of successful projects, including the transformation of the customer experience across all of Homeprotect’s communications, which saw the business be ranked number one for transparency in home insurance by Fairer Finance in 2024.
You can often read David’s comments in the national press on topics including non-standard properties, when specialist insurance might be needed, and general property safety – especially for unoccupied homes, second homes and listed buildings. He says: “Always take the time to accurately calculate your buildings rebuild cost and, if you have contents insurance, the true replacement cost of your contents. If you underestimate your rebuild or replacement costs, this could have big implications as in the event of a loss, as you may not be covered for the actual cost to rebuild your house or replace your contents if you need to claim. With Homeprotect, you get up to £1 million buildings cover as standard – so it’s important to check your rebuild value, as you’ll be underinsured if it’s higher and not declared. Many other insurers offer less, which increases the risk of underinsurance if your estimate is inaccurate. The Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) tool, available when you get a quote on our website, can help you estimate your rebuild cost. For contents, keep an inventory and receipts for new items. Check which items need to be specified on your policy. At Homeprotect valuables such as jewellery and watches, portable tech like laptops, and bikes must be listed if individually worth over £1,500, or if you need cover away from home.”

Emily writes content for Homeprotect across a range of topics to help prospective and current customers understand their home insurance needs. She has a particular interest in writing in-depth guides on subjects which have included probate, empty homes and unoccupied properties, owning a second home and a first time buyers’ guide. Emily says: “Home insurance can be confusing, particularly if there’s something about your property that makes it non-standard. There are policies available that can cover all sorts of needs – from running a business from home, to landlord insurance, probate insurance and holiday homes and holiday lets, but it’s important to take the time to do your research to find a policy that suits your specific circumstances, rather than just going for the cheapest price.”
