The use of data we were awarded for is our innovative 'Neptune' project, which allows us to accurately rate properties in flood-prone areas at an individual dwelling level - and this is important as we are unique in this approach compared to every other home insurance provider in the UK. The judges' decision was unanimous.

Winner of the E-business Award, our success here was a joint initiative with comparison site giant, Confused.com. We worked closely with them to help them develop their home insurance service to cater for so-called 'hard to insure' circumstances, such as a history of flooding or subsidence, unoccupied property, home business use and customer eligibility situations such as unspent criminal convictions, bankruptcy and an adverse claims history.
The initiative enabled HomeProtect to return accurate home insurance quotes to Confused.com customers for each of these specialist circumstances. Launched in late February 2010, we are still the only home insurance provider catering for these customers - testament to our unique, online service.

Finalist in the Business Transformation Deal of the Year category, our nomination here was also in respect to the joint initiative we undertook with Confused.com. Whilst we won at the UK Broker Awards we had to settle for a finalist nomination at the British Insurance Awards. Still, you can't win them all!

Finalist in the Broker Innovation of the Year category, the Insurance Times Awards were the third time we were recognised by the industry for the success of our joint initiative with Confused.com. The key factor underpinning all our nominations this year is that people in specialist, or 'hard to insure' circumstances had for years been very limited in their options when it came to home insurance. By taking our unique online service to the masses via one of the most popular comparison sites, we had afforded these customers the opportunity to complete their home insurance purchase online - a convenience they have simply not had access to previously.
Winner - British Insurance Awards
Winner of the Broking Initiative of the Year category, our success was in recognition of the unique, online home insurance service we launched on homeprotect.co.uk to help people in 'hard to insure' circumstances. This includes five million people in the UK with criminal convictions, four million people with properties at risk of subsidence, two million people working from home and two million people situated in flood plains.
Prior to the launch of our service, these people - who account for a massive 15% of the overall home insurance market - had very limited options when it came to buying their insurance, typically having to go to a broker and enduring a lengthy, offline purchase experience. Our unique online service gave them access to affordable home insurance cover and an immediacy of service they had never previously been able to enjoy.

Finalist in the Broker Innovation of the Year category, our nomination was another acknowledgement of our unique, online service for people in so-called 'hard to insure' or specialist home insurance circumstances. We didn't win but a fun night was had at the awards in Battersea Park, London so that provided some small consolation!
