Your boiler is pretty important to your home, especially over the colder months – it brings you warmth and comfort, so when things go wrong it can cause a bit of a problem. Boiler insurance will fund the cost of repairs and labour.

Is home emergency cover worth it?

Boiler breakdowns and central heating malfunctions can happen at the most inconvenient of times, and there’s nothing worse than being left in the cold. With emergency cover, you have the peace of mind that you will be protected around the clock – meaning should the worst happen, a trained engineer will be there to see to the problem at the earliest possible time. 

Electric and gas boiler cover

HomeProtect’s Full Home Emergency Cover is suitable for homes with electric or gas boilers. Unlike gas boilers, electric boilers don’t have as many mechanical parts running them, so they generally take less maintenance. 

What is covered?

  • Emergency repairs to boiler and central heating system

  • Up to £500 per claim, and a total callout of between £1,500 and unlimited per year, depending on your policy

  • Access to 24/7 helpline

  • Overnight accommodation should your property become uninhabitable, with cover up to £250 depending on your policy. 

What’s not covered?

  • Boilers over 15 years old, or in some cases 10 years old
  • Boilers that have not been serviced in the last 12 months
  • Boiler breakdowns or central heating malfunctions which are not emergencies 

Do I need to service my boiler regularly?

It’s recommended that you have your boiler serviced on a regular basis, in order to catch any problems before they reach a point of being irreparable. If left, some faults can result in higher running costs, or even become dangerous. 

For your boiler cover to be valid, you must be able to prove that you have had your boiler serviced in the last 12 months and that you are doing what you can to maintain it to the best of your ability. So when buying a home it’s always worth asking the vendor for the warranty and any service certificates.

What if my boiler can’t be fixed?

While your assigned engineer will do their best to get your boiler or heating up and running again as soon as possible, in some circumstances it may be beyond safe repair. In this case, unfortunately, we cannot offer a contribution towards the cost of a replacement boiler.

What if my boiler system is old?

If your boiler is over ten years old then it may not be covered, depending on your policy. If your boiler is over 15 years old then it would not be covered.

How many callouts can I make?

There is no limit on how many callouts you can make. There may, however, be a maximum aggregate limit on how much you can claim for, depending on your policy.
